Wire Brushing

Wire brushing cleans and adds texture to wood. This creates an almost three-dimensional look, which enhances the natural texture of the grain.

Wainscot has a special machine that uses a set of steel wire brushes to clean and add texture to wood.

The brushes can be used to denib the surface (remove the small thin fibers of wood to make the surface smooth to touch), clean unwanted man-made marks (handprints) and to scoop out the soft wood which leaves the grain slightly raised. This leaves the wood with more texture than a smooth sanded surface.

Add Texture

We can also adjust the machine to a hard setting that, depending on the type of wood, creates texture by cutting into the surface. This is helpful if we want the wood to have texture when there is not a lot of natural grain pattern.
