If there is a fire in the building, the coating acts as a barrier between the fire and the wood so that it is slow to burn. This allows more time for discovery and evacuation before the burning wood causes smoke and flames that might obstruct evacuation.
The coating process involves the application of several products to create a clear film on the wood that looks very similar to a normal polyurethane coating. The application of the layers of film is a precise sequence that is rigorously followed.
Xerofire Intumescent Coating is approved to NA Fire Standard Class 1S. The wood can be coloured before the clear coat is applied.
The whole application process takes a week from start to finish before the wood can be packed and ready to be sent for installation.
Wainscot does not install the Xerofire intumescent coated wood, rather it is coated and sent to the qualified builder to install.
