Intumescent Fire Resistant Coating

Wainscot is an authorised applicator of the Xerofire Intumescent Coating System, which provides Class 1S passive fire protection on wood.

Usually, wood panelling on the walls and ceilings in a public area is required to have a fire-resistant intumescent coat applied.

If there is a fire in the building, the coating acts as a barrier between the fire and the wood so that it is slow to burn. This allows more time for discovery and evacuation before the burning wood causes smoke and flames that might obstruct evacuation.

Coating

The coating process involves the application of several products to create a clear film on the wood that looks very similar to a normal polyurethane coating. The application of the layers of film is a precise sequence that is rigorously followed.

Xerofire Intumescent Coating is approved to NA Fire Standard Class 1S. The wood can be coloured before the clear coat is applied.
